For thirty years, the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW) has been a leader in improving employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in Canada and leading the way for inclusive employment through connecting employers with job seekers who have disabilities.
The CCRW is committed to promoting and supporting the meaningful and equitable employment of persons with disabilities. The National Office is located in Toronto, Ontario, with an Employment Services Office in Moncton, New Brunswick and Project offices across Canada in NL, NB, MB, SK, and BC.
Providing a one-stop service for both employers and persons with disabilities, the CCRW responds to employment equity human resource needs through resource tools, services and support.
Programs and Services include:
- Corporate Outreach. Working closely with employers in identifying the issues and gaps that are challenging their recruitment and retention efforts for people with disabilities. We provide solutions and support to each employer.
- Disability Awareness Series: Inclusive Innovation Strategy (DAS). Practical tools to support the creation of an inclusive workplace and workforce. A corporate training package that provides a solid foundation for achieving your employment equity needs
- Employment Services, Moncton, NB. A program designed to provide professional career development and employment counselling services to persons with physical and sensory disabilities. Participants must reside in the southeast region of New Brunswick
- Ethno-cultural portal for youth with disabilities. Ontario based career related information and continuous learning/training opportunities for youth with disabilities. Focus for the site is toward visible minorities, aboriginal, or newcomer groups.
- Job Accommodation Service (JASTM). Your company’s advisor on effective and successful workplace accommodation solutions, assisting you in developing organizational ability to employ, retain, and accommodate employees with disabilities
- Partners for Workplace Inclusion Program (PWIP). A pre-employment program designed to facilitate skills of job seekers with disabilities through training and work trials toward achieving meaningful and equitable employment. Locations in NL, NB, MB, SK, and BC.
- Research. The CCRW conducts leading research in the area of employment for people with disabilities. In 2005, a Diversity Planning for Inclusive Employment (DPIE) research project conducted the largest survey in Canada regarding employer attitudes towards job seekers with disabilities.
- WORKinkTM (http://www.workink.com). Interactive, Inclusive, Innovative. Canada’s leading award winning Virtual Employment Portal for Employers and Job Seekers with Disabilities.
- Workplace Essential Skills Partnership (WESP). An award-winning employment program for employers and job seekers with disabilities. Through partnership with Canadian employers specific human resource recruitment needs are identified and employment programs implemented. Programs may be local or national in scope.
- WESP-Toronto. Located in the Greater Toronto Area in partnership with the CNIB, this program is designed to provide a wide range of services including vocational evaluation, employment preparation workshops and job development.
- WESP-Surrey, BC. Located in Surrey, (2005-06) an essential skills training program with specific emphasis on customer service.
- Youth Ability in Skilled Trades (YAST). Two year project creating an awareness of skilled trade careers for youth (ages 15-30) with disabilities. Recent graduates with disabilities are provided with a 6 – month “career focused” employment experience while developing skilled trades information and workshops.
In the future, the CCRW will continue to cultivate mutually rewarding partnerships, publish and market some of the finest resources on disability and employment, and provide innovative training for persons with disabilities, employment professionals, and employers.
