OWIP: Ontario Workplace Inclusion Program

The Ontario Workplace Inclusion Program (OWIP) supports job seekers with disabilities find work in the Durham region.

Our goal is to help job seekers with disabilities enhance their essential skills to prepare for wage subsidy, work experience, and ultimately employment.

Our services include:

  • short-term training and skills upgrading: enhance the essential employability skills
  • one-on-one job development
  • group workshops designed to prepare clients for the world of work
  • career exploration and decision making
  • job search strategies
  • cover letter and resume development
  • interview skills
  • disclosure and accommodation support
  • paid work experience and wage subsidy programs
  • ongoing job maintenance and support

You may qualify for OWIP services if you:

  • self-identify as a person with a disability
  • reside in the Durham region in Ontario
  • are currently unemployed or under-employed (working less than 20 hours per week)
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada
  • are not eligible for assistance under Employment Insurance (EI) benefits
    • are not currently in receipt of EI
    • have not collected EIP in the past 3 years
    • have not collected EI parental or maternity benefits in the past 5 years
  • are motivated and ready to job search (we will help you build and develop job search skills)
  • have a job goal(s) in line with the labour market

We do not require medical proof of disability. You simply have to declare that you are a person with a disability. Clients may have physical, visible, and/or invisible disabilities (such as anxiety, depression or learning disabilities), and/or medical or episodic barriers to employment. All of our job seeker clients are ready and motivated to job search.

OWIP works with employers of all sizes and sector to create connections with talented candidates and support inclusive recruitment
