Canadian Hearing Society Board of Directors Position Posting

Our client, the Canadian Hearing Society (“CHS”), is a growing national organization dedicated to providing high-quality services and products to Deaf and hard of hearing Canadians. CHS is inviting applications/nominations for multiple Board of Directors appointments in 2017 and 2018.

Founded in 1940, CHS is the largest and leading non-profit provider of services, products, and information that remove barriers to communication, advance hearing health, and promote equity for people who are Deaf and hard of hearing in Canada. CHS is redefining and transforming itself today for the future by utilizing its core competencies and expertise to find impactful ways and new channels to grow its business, delivering innovative, value added solutions and services to advance a barrier-free society.

Governing CHS is the CHS Board, a progressive, policy governance Board of Directors. Dynamic and strategic thinkers and doers with an open and continuous improvement mindset, and passionate ambassadors to CHS, this national Board of Directors sets the strategy and long-term strategic mission, vision, and direction for the organization. Collaborating very closely with CHS’ President and CEO, the Board supports and ensures CHS’ growth into a national leader by addressing the key economic, communications and health/wellness barriers facing Deaf and hard of hearing Canadians. Comprised exclusively of volunteers, CHS Board members come from across Canada and bring a wide variety of skill sets and business and community leadership experiences from the private, public and non-profit sectors to provide oversight to the organization through best practice governance.

With demonstrated sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment, Board members ideally bring knowledge of issues related to hearing loss and Deaf culture, and/or an ability in American Sign Language (“ASL”), Langues des signes du québécoise, (“LSQ”) or a willingness to learn. Additionally, a minimum of 50% of the Directors on the Board shall be Deaf and/or hard of hearing Canadians. ICD.D and D.Cir Directors credentials are highly desired.
